Writing Prompt - Superpowers

What's your superpower? Not the flying and seeing through walls sort of superpowers but the thing you do better than anyone else. Maybe you're a whiz with numbers. You cook the best apple pie. There's not a broken machine you can't fix. You're a good listener or singer or maybe you are the all-around best window cleaner in your state.

Think of something you do well. Really, really well. Now give that trait to a character. Now bring on another character who wants to stop you from doing what you were meant to do. Develop a scene between the two of them.

Write on, right now.

Shameless Self Promotion

Time out for a quick bit of shameless self-promotion. If you read my regular writing blog Susan Writes feel free to skip ahead to the next prompt.

My thanks to Kelly Herold of Big A little a for her review of Hugging the Rock in the June/July 2006 issue of the online magazine The Edge of the Forest. (If you are reading this blog entry after July 2006 you'll have to go to the archived issues for it as the links go to the current issue.) Also, in the same issue, you can read an interview with me in the column The Blogging Writer. The Edge of the Forest is a fairly new edition to the online MUST-READS to add to your list.

Also a pointer to a couple of interesting posts in the other blog. There's the evolution of a poem from Hugging the Rock which covers a 3 year span and an essay on The Writer and the Hawk.

We now return to your regularly scheduled prompts.

Write on, right now.
